Do you know who's birthday is today?
And a real-life coffee mystery, and a FREE cozy mystery!
The Postal Service Act, establishing the US Post Office Department, was signed by President George Washington on February 20, 1792. In other words, the United States Postal Service celebrates its 233rd birthday today.
In honor of the federal institution that helps deliver our mail, here are five facts you might not know about USPS.
The first postage stamp was issued in 1847 and featured Benjamin Franklin. Before the use of stamps, all mail was hand-delivered.
Zip codes were not introduced until the mid-1960s.
The first USPS office was located inside a Boston tavern.
USPS was instrumental in connecting the American West with the eastern states in the 19th century, delivering not only supplies and trade goods but also news from loved ones across the miles.
USPS employees deliver hundreds of millions of mail daily and, no matter how difficult, they must (allegedly) deliver mail to every U.S. address.

Last month, my husband dropped his cell phone and we ordered a new one. Not a problem—except the carrier and FedEx had communication issues and it took three weeks to arrive. As frustrating as that was, it was still better than (dramatic pause)…
The Case of the Missing Coffee
Oh yeah, friends. I had a real-life mystery on my hands. My obsession with coffee is no secret. “Coffee Girl” is my logo. My Facebook reader group is called “Books and Coffee with Becky Muth & R. A. Muth.” I drink between 20 and 80 ounces of coffee daily. When I say I love coffee, I mean… I LOVE COFFEE.
So here are the facts…
January 6 - I placed a coffee order.
January 7 - USPS picked up the coffee.
January 9 - The coffee leaves the regional facility.
January 11 - The coffee arrives in Memphis, Tennessee.
January 15 - The coffee is “in transit,” and my requests for more info fall on deaf ears.
January 30 - I emailed the company to ask if they could research this on their end and they offered to ship me a freshly roasted batch as even if this one arrives, it won’t be as fresh. Cue legit tears of joy!
Considering the three different styles of coffee makers in the coffee corner of the kitchen (not including the cold brew coffee maker), the multiple types of coffee we already have, and the coffee shop across the street from my house, I have no reason to complain. I just wanted USPS to deliver my coffee in a reasonable amount of time. Thank goodness this company was much more awesome than USPS.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to refill my coffee mug.

Paid a ton of $$ for next day across the country to get something to my daughter. Needless to say it didn’t arrive for 2 weeks. USPS refused to give me a refund because the bottom of my receipt said there was no guarantee. 🤦🏽♀️
Happy Belated Birthday!
