Finding Quiet in the Chaos
Escaped monkeys, feral emus, and a kangaroo, oh my!
The past six months have been wild in South Carolina, even without news stories covering politics or religion. First, a group of monkeys escaped from a science lab. Then, a pair of feral emus (nicknamed Thelma and Louise) spent several weeks roaming around our corner of the county. A police officer in the western part of the state swears he saw Bigfoot. The icing on the cake happened a few weeks ago when local police picked up a rogue kangaroo. You cannot make this stuff up!
Speaking of Kangaroos
My husband, Mister-I-Don’t-Use-Social-Media, has a new addiction—watching kangaroos on TikTok. When he first started talking about Joey on TikTok, I thought it must be an influencer.
Then he started talking about “the Joeys” on TikTok, and I was so confused. Were “the Joeys” a group of guys all named Joey? Was it a group of “Joey from Friends” impersonators? Imagine a chorus of “How you doin’”s.
Imagine my surprise when I learned that the joeys were a group of baby kangaroos. They are darling, and I can understand why he’s so fascinated with them. These videos are his calm in the chaos of life. When he feels stressed, he watches a few videos, laughs at the joeys’ antics, and then goes on about his day.
