My springtime nemesis has returned.
And 30+ FREE cozies for your spring reading list
You could’ve picked anywhere to spend your reading time, but I’m honored you landed in my sweet and cozy world. No matter what genre I write, the only thing steamy you’ll find in here is the coffee. Thanks for being here!
The Super Bowl happened weeks ago. I’m not sure who won, but I know it wasn’t the New England Patriots. The halftime show reached over 4 billion views within 24 hours. My husband will now spend Sundays watching NASCAR. I will spend them doing something else indoors, because we’ve reached the time of year that all South Carolina residents dread. That’s right.
Pollen season has arrived.
The yellow dust covers everything. Literally everything. When pollen hits, our driveway looks like someone crumbled up yellow chalk sticks over it. It leaves a sheen of yellow around the welcome mat on the covered front porch. When the dogs go out, they come back inside with pollen. There’s no escaping it.
Three years ago was one of the worst pollen episodes to occur since we moved here. Pollen didn’t just cover the usual things. Alligators walked around sporting shades of pastel yellow. Pollen turned the ocean a disgusting shade of snot-green. I typically don’t mind the color green, but that was a bit much—even for me.
The air purifier in my office works overtime during pollen season. I stay indoors as much as possible. This isn’t in the normal “I’m an indoor cat” way of staying inside. Oh, no. It’s much more extreme. Bears hibernate until the spring thaw, but Becky hibernates until the pollen subsides.
And in case you’re wondering how bad it is this year, here’s a screenshot of a local weatherperson’s social media post from last week.
How bad is the pollen where you live? Do you take any precautions against it? Let’s discuss in the comments!

Oof! Here in Florida, we are also covered in pollen. Everything's yellow!
Wow! That's way, way, too much pollen! I don't think I could live over there. My allergies tend to be irritated by everything (dust, pollen, change of seasons, etc.), so years ago my doctor to start taking my allergy med year-round. Usually when pollen pops up in the spring, I adjust pretty quickly with maybe a few bad days.
What y'all got going on over there...that's ridiculous. Reminds me of that time in Jinan when there was 2-3 days of thick, visible smog blanketing the city. I could hardly breathe. I deeply resented having to walk outside to go to work. The worst!
