You’ll never guess what time I got home after senior prom…

If you ask me what the best part of my senior prom was, I won’t tell you it was the dancing. Or the music. And it definitely wasn’t my date.
Oh, he was very tall, quite handsome, and from a neighboring state. None of my classmates knew him, and the following Monday in school, there were plenty of questions for me, as a bookish gal who never really dated in high school. The date and I were better off as friends, as it turned out.
But the very best part of my prom night? The dress
This dress was a vision of Southern belle, bless-my-heart pink satin layered over yards and yards of white lace, and more crinolines than I could count. The dress swished like a fabric thunderstorm with every step, and it was worth every rustle and crinkle. My mom got plenty of pics (and video—the VHS is still in a box of high school memories tucked away in my bedroom closet).
I survived a BBQ chicken dinner (yes, really, because nothing says “prom elegance” like finger food and formalwear) without a single stain. After that, we headed to the college ballroom where the prom was held. We had our picture taken and danced.
But the real shocker?
The one night I was allowed to stay out past curfew... I got home before midnight, and it was my choice. Parties were never my thing. Instead of staying out half the night, I opted to read past my bedtime, and if spending more time with Mr. Darcy than my prom date was wrong, I never want to be right.

Within ten minutes of walking through the front door, I was in pajama pants and a baggy t-shirt. I’ve always been a cozy-at-heart kind of gal. Like the characters in my books, I feel prettiest when I’m comfortable in my own skin, and in my favorite casual clothes like yoga pants, glittery tennis shoes, and my coffee-themed t-shirts.
Now I want to know—How was your prom night? Did you go? What did you wear? Any drama on the dance floor? Hit reply and spill the (sweet) tea!

That's a great prom story! Also, thank you for sharing my book <3 <3 <3
A group of us were bound and determined to go to our prom. We even contacted the University of Pittsburgh foreign student association to see if a foreign student would like to experience an American tradition. No takers there. Dug up a couple of dates--don't ask me the names, I have erased them from my memory--from our class. The night began with dinner at one of the boy's homes. First course, shrimp cocktail. Great. (said sarcastically) I have been known to have an allergic reaction to shrimp.. and the night just got better. I bailed on the after party which might have been a mistake. Lionel Hampton provided that music. I loved the dress. Got it from Horne's and kept it for years. Wore it a number of times when I was in college. Donated it many years later to a group that was providing gowns for girls who couldn't afford them. Remember the dress, but have suppressed memories of everything else.
